Jennifer Lopez Joins Taio Cruz On “Dynamite” Remix

The song isn't that great, and you can't really tell J-lo is in the song. I consider this a sign of things to come as more people remix the song and others start to cover it. I think it helps solidify Taio Cruz's hit and all the people who think he is a one hit wonder can forget about it. Taio is here to stay.

Taio Cruz So Close to Number 1 on ARIA Chart

Eminem, Rihanna hold Cruz off Oz top spot

Eminem and Rihanna have prevented Taio Cruz from scoring his first No.1 on the ARIA singles chart.

Cruz's 'Dynamite' leaps five places this week to second position, but is held off the top spot by the American pair's 'Love The Way You Lie', which notches up its fourth week at the summit.

British singer-songwriter-producer Cruz also peaked at number two Down Under with 'Break Your Heart' earlier this year.

Meanwhile, behind Eminem, Rihanna and Cruz, Enrique Iglesias slips to three with Pitbull collaboration 'I Like It'.

Katy Perry places two tracks in this week's top ten, debuting at four with 'Teenage Dream' to notch up her sixth Aussie top ten hit, but falling from four to seven with former chart-topper 'California Gurls'.

'America's Got Talent' welcomes Bret Michaels, Taio Cruz

The Wednesday, Aug. 4 live results show of "America's Got Talent" just got a whole lot thornier.

Bret Michaels, most recently of "Celebrity Apprentice," is stopping by "America's Got Talent" to perform his signature power ballad "Every Rose Has Its Thorn." He will be joined by U.K. artist Taio Cruz, whose debut single "Break Your Heart," (feat. Ludicris) is currently making its way up the charts.

Michaels also performed "Rose" on the "American Idol" finale with finalist Casey James and has been mentioned many times in guess-who-is-replacing-Simon-Cowell conversations. This performance of "Rose" comes during the last quarter-final of "Talent," when the final three acts advance to the semi-finals.

Funnily enough, we predicted Bret Michaels would be on "Talent." We were only three weeks off. "America's Got Talent" airs Tuesday and Wednesday nights at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.

A lot of Press Over Dynamite, Taio's New Single!

I love the video and I love the song. What do you think? Will it hit number one? If you haven't seen the video yet, check it out here.

Mike Thiel column: Usher, Katy Perry, Taio Cruz among artists defining summer radio play

Think of all the music you mentally digest in a week; what songs get stuck in your head? What melody do you find yourself humming along to even when you despise it?

For some reason, summer songs are far more contagious than songs released in other seasons, and 2010’s defining summer tunes are beginning to pop; Usher’s back, Katy Perry never left and Taio Cruz is finally creeping up on the veterans.

Choosing this summer’s top dance/club tracks was difficult but after considering the timing of the release, longevity on the charts, radio play, current chart status and a little subjectivity, it became easier to dole out my five songs to be remembered in the summer of 2010.

“OMG” by Usher

After hitting No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and currently lasting 16 weeks on the charts, I will go on record to say that “OMG” holds enough weight to close down 2010 as the summer’s defining song. Even in its almighty radio rotation, “OMG” shines brighter than other tracks with its clever song structure, fun incorporation of technology lingo and new school meets old school video. Usher is back in 2010 and is inching closer to filling the void left by our now Michael Jackson-less music world.

“Dynamite” by Taio Cruz

“Break Your Heart” added the commercial value of Ludacris to lift it to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, but “Dynamite” has Cruz all on his own, rocking a simple solo sing-along. I’m loving this track right now and it’s holding its place on the charts well; too soon to tell if this one will get old fast, but right now it’s exploding like … dynamite.

“Club Can’t Handle Me” by Flo Rida

Last night, “Club Can’t Handle Me” was sitting at No. 89 on the Billboard Hot 100, which means it has the potential to do some serious climbing in the upcoming weeks. Though sometimes it reminds me of a “I Got a Feeling”/”Hamster Dance Song” hybrid, it’s a total hands-up party track that has potential to last in the DJ’s play list.

“I Like It” by Enrique Iglesias

Originally, I poked fun and called this song “I Don’t Like It,” but its continuous radio play has forced me to sing along, and now, the song and I enjoy our time together. Whether any of us really “like it” or not, Iglesias and Pitbull nail the summer sound with this one.

“California Gurls” by Katy Perry

It’s the current No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 (as of last night) and is shaping up to be the peanut butter to our summer jam. A catchy hook, an assist from Snoop Dogg and a risque music video were enough to boot “OMG” from the top spot a few weeks ago and it has anchored itself since. Also, the No. 1 hit is spurring YouTube spoofs like “Minnesota Gurls,” which is sure to inspire more (bad) knock-offs, keeping this summery tune fresh until the leaves start falling.

Eminem, Rihanna end Perry's US chart reign

Eminem and Rihanna have ended Katy Perry's six-week reign over the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.

Their hit 'Love The Way You Lie' - also top in Australia at present - climbs to No.1 this week after spending three consecutive weeks in second position.

It becomes the fourth and seventh US chart-toppers for Eminem and Rihanna respectively.

Perry slips to two with 'California Gurls', while B.o.B. and Hayley Williams hold steady at three with 'Airplanes'.

Meanwhile, Taio Cruz climbs from six to four with 'Dynamite', the follow-up to his transatlantic chart-topper 'Break Your Heart'.

Notable gains outside the top ten come from Shontelle, who jumps from 16 to 13 with 'Impossible', and Maroon 5, who leap from 44 to 28 with 'Misery'.

The top ten singles in full (click where possible for our reviews):

1. (2) Eminem ft. Rihanna: 'Love The Way You Lie'
2. (1) Katy Perry: 'California Gurls'
3. (3) B.o.B ft. Eminem & Haley Williams: 'Airplanes'
4. (6) Taio Cruz: 'Dynamite'
5. (4) Usher: 'OMG'
6. (7) Mike Posner: 'Cooler Than Me'
7. (5) Travie McCoy ft. Bruno Mars: 'Billionaire'
8. (8) Enrigue Igelsias ft. Pitbull: 'I Like It'
9. (9) Drake: 'Find Your Love'
10. (10) Jason Derulo: 'Ridin' Solo'

Video Premiere: Taio Cruz's 'Dynamite'

Taio Cruz rides a fast bike and stops by a place where he kicks off a firework party with the ladies in attendance. "I've done race cars and speedboats. For this one, I wanted to do things on a bike," he explained to MTV. "So you're gonna see me spin the tires on this, which is pretty cool!"

One of the vehicles brought for the video shoot is a "massive truck" which was used to film big screen project "Universal Soldier". He said, "I've never done a video that has this many props in it. We've got the most amazing, wrecked cars."

"Dynamite" is taken from Taio Cruz's second album "Rokstarr". He stated, "[It] is about when you go to the club and when you go to a party and when you're just going out ... you got to feel like, 'I'm just gonna explode'." And he represents that in the music video with "just massive, massive fireworks in the sky."

Listen to Taio Cruz "Dynamite" (Stonebridge Remix)

Taio Cruz's new single "Dynamite" is guilty pleasure pop of the finest kind. And that should really come as no surprise. The track was written by Taio in collaboration with Dr. Luke (Ke$ha's main man) and Swedish pop genius Max Martin who really doesn't need more of an introduction.

"Dynamite" further solidies Cruz's reputation as one of the planet's rare, sure-bet chart toppers. If you look for slick, catchy and dancefloor-ready pop, Taizo Cruz delivers every single time. The single comes with a slew of remixes including this hot little remake by Stonebridge. "Dynamite" will hit the U.K. on August 23.

Taio Cruz Teases 'Massive Fireworks' In 'Dynamite' Video

Set visit with the 'Break Your Heart' singer also reveals tricked-out bikes, hot models in mechanic outfits and more.

Shifting modes of transportation from sports car to speedboat to race-ready motorcycle, British dance/pop singer Taio Cruz plans to take fans along to a fiery junkyard fete with the new video for his hit single "Dynamite."

For those unfamiliar with Cruz's video persuasions, he tends to go for two things in particular: scantily clad hotties in party mode and some form of adrenaline-boosting vehicle. So when MTV News recently caught up with him on the Sun Valley, California, set for "Dynamite," we weren't too surprised to find dozens of models outfitted in mechanic uniforms. The ride-loving pop star also found it appropriate to conduct our interview perched on his 1000cc-speed bike.

"I've done race cars and speedboats. For this one, I wanted to do things on a bike," Cruz explained. "So you're gonna see me spin the tires on this, which is pretty cool!"

"Dynamite" currently stands at #14 on the Billboard Hot 100, just two spots shy of his debut U.S. single, "Beak Your Heart," which topped the chart earlier this year and has spent more than four months in the rankings. For the "Dynamite" visual, fans will be pleased to see Cruz has taken his set-piece game to a whole new level.

"I've never done a video that has this many props in it," Cruz said. "We've got the most amazing, wrecked cars. There's even a massive truck that was used in the movie 'Universal Soldier.' "
Could a video for a song named after explosive pyrotechnics be filmed without actually featuring some? Sure, but that wouldn't be any fun.

"The song 'Dynamite' itself is about when you go to the club and when you go to a party and when you're just going out ... you got to feel like, 'I'm just gonna explode,' " Cruz explained. "Basically, we are going to represent that with just massive, massive, fireworks in the sky!"

Katy Perry's "California Gurls" Spends Fifth Week At #1 On Billboard Hot 100

Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN) - Katy Perry's "California Gurls" is still the most popular song in the country, remaining at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a fifth week. It's also inching closer to her longest streak at #1 when she topped the chart for seven weeks with "I Kissed a Girl." The track, which features rapper Snoop Dogg, is also the #1 song at pop radio. It also moved another 277,000 copies in digital sales, but wasn't the week's biggest digital seller.

That title belongs to Eminem and Rihanna with "Love the Way You Lie," which sold another 280,000 copies for a second week at the top of the Hot Digital Songs chart. That's also good enough for another week at #2 on the Hot 100. Usher follows with "OMG" at #3 for another week.

There were no shake-ups in the top 5 at all this week as B.o.B. and Hayley Williams remain at #4 this week with "Airplanes," while Travie McCoy and Bruno Mars are unmoved at #5 with "Billionaire."

Mike Posner moves up to #6 this week with his debut single, "Cooler Than Me." Meanwhile, Taio Cruz was only absent from the top 10 for a week before rebounding back with his brand new single, "Dynamite." The track moves up to #7 from #14 last week. It's also rumored to be released as a remix with Jennifer Lopez.

Down two spots to #8 this week is Drake with "Find Your Love," while Jason Derulo inches up a spot to #9 with his latest, "Ridin' Solo." Eminem climbs back into the top 10, holding the #10 spot this week for his second entry on the chart.

Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 For the Week Ending July 17th, 2010:

1. “California Gurls,” Katy Perry feat. Snoop Dogg

Enrique Iglesias, Taio Cruz Lead "Jersey Shore" Soundtrack

Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN) - The bronzed crew of MTV's "Jersey Shore" are providing the sounds of the summer with the soundtrack to the hit reality show, just in time for the premiere of the show's second season.

The soundtrack is led by the single "I Like It," by Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull, which also appears on Iglesia's album "Euphoria." A video for the single featuring the cast of "Jersey Shore" is already in rotation on MTV.

The rest of the soundtrack was assembled for maximum fist-pumping potential, with club-ready tracks like Deadmau5 and Rob Swire's "Ghosts N Stuff," Paul Oakenfold's "Pump It Up," and Tiesto vs. Diplo on "Come On."

Taio Cruz and Ludacris get remixed on the #1 hit "Break Your Heart," David Guetta appears with his new Fergie-featuring single "Gettin' Over You," with Chris Willis and LMFAO. LMFAO also contribute the theme to the show's first season, "Get Crazy."

The rest of the soundtrack features songs from Kid Sister, Lil Jon feat. 30H!3, Girlicious, Midi Mafia, Richard Vission, Die Atzen, and Steve Aoki.

Cast member DJ Pauly D even contributes a track, "Beat Dat Beat (It's Time To)." Conspicuously missing from the soundtrack? Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino's dance track "The Situation," which leaked last month and featured Fatman Scoop, DJ Class, and Disco Fries.

The "Jersey Shore" soundtrack hits stores July 20th, while the show's highly anticipated second season premieres on July 29th.

SPIN's "Cheat Sheet"

Let's hope he isn't the "flavor of the month" but here is an article written by SPIN about Taio Cruz:

Find it hard to keep track of the newest pop music phenoms but don't want to look dumb at a party? We're here to help. Here's SPIN's handy cheat sheet to pop's flavor of the month:

Who: Taio Cruz

Huh? It's pronounced Tie-o, not Tay-o.

Why you've heard the name: This British R&B smoothy's dancefloor-friendly pop smash "Break Your Heart," featuring Ludacris, recently hit No. 1 on the Billboard 100. His sophomore album, Rokstarr, entered the Billboard Top 200 at No. 8.

How he got started: The 27-year-old Cruz was a successful songwriter and producer for the likes of Justin Timberlake, Usher, Ke$ha, and Britney Spears, so he knows his way around a hook.

He might remind you of: A slightly less randy Akon.

Favorite video props: Speedboats and hot women.

Blimey! Cruz has "slightly more sex appeal than JLS basted in turkey grease by Louis Walsh," says NME. We don't know what that means, but it doesn't sound good.

Girl trouble: Cruz had planned to release a version of "Umbrella" as an early single, but Rihanna called dibs and scored a huge hit. More recently, Brit pop chanteuse Corrine Bailey Rae threatened to sue Cruz, claiming that his "She's Like a Star" plagiarized her "Like a Star." The case never went to court.

He's got a fever: And it'll only get worse. Cruz is writing songs for Justin Bieber's next album.

Billboard Top 10

Our boy Taio Cruz falls another one this week 6-7, but he is still holding out in the top 10. Taio's other hit Dynamite has fallen from 26 to 45! A huge disappointment, I have a feeling it will rise again next week...start requesting it on the radio, it is a good hit!

From: Billboard.com:

Katy Perry holds at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a second week with "California Gurls," featuring Snoop Dogg, and further distances herself from the pack as the title takes both the Airplay and Digital Gainer awards. Downloads improve 11% to 353,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan, while listener impressions surpass the 100 million mark (105.2, up 18%), according to Nielsen BDS. Perry is the first female artist to claim simultaneous gainer awards while residing at No. 1 since Alicia Keys, with "No One" on the chart dated Dec. 1, 2007.

Usher remains at No. 2 with "OMG," while maintaining its No. 1 standing for a third week on Radio Songs. Also holding in place on the big chart is "Airplanes" by B.o.B featuring Hayley Williams at No. 3.

Travie McCoy and Ke$ha swap spots as the former's "Billionaire" bounces 5-4 and the latter's "Your Love Is My Drug" dips 4-5. Meanwhile, Lady Gaga's "Alejandro" returns to its highest ranking (7-6). "Break Your Heart" by Taio Cruz featuring Ludacris falls 6-7.

When you start your chart life at No. 1, there's nowhere to go but down, but Eminem finds a way to rebound (11-8) with his former chart-topping debut "Not Afraid." Digital pre-order placement for the June 21 release of his album "Recovery" spurs downloads (up 11%) for the set's leadoff track as does increased radio play (up 7%), lifting the song back into the top 10 of the Hot 100 after a one-week respite.

Rounding out the top 10 are The Black Eyed Peas' "Rock That Body," which hold at No. 9 and Drake's "Find Your Love" which improves 13-10. "Love" is Drake's third top 10, all as a lead vocalist. He also visited the region with "Best I Ever Had" (No. 2 peak last July) and "Forever" (No. 8 in October).

Taio's no Diva

British pop star Taio Cruz might break, break your heart ... but he won't act like a diva

Now that Taio Cruz is a certifiable international pop star - his Break Your Heart has topped the charts in the United States, Canada and his native U.K. - he can finally feel free to start acting the part and unleash his inner diva.

Except that's not really his style.

"I don't have diva tendencies," the soft-spoken Cruz said with a laugh during a trip to Toronto this week. "Usually, my rider is one bottle of water. That's it.

"Sometimes I don't even ask for that."

That sounds uncommon, maybe, but then Cruz has taken an thoroughly unusual path thus far in his career.

The 27-year-old - born Adetayo Ayowale Onile-Ere to a Nigerian father and a Brazilian mother in London - began as a songwriter (he's penned tunes for Usher, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and Kylie Minogue) before being singled out in Britain as a potential star talent in his own right.

His first record, 2008's Departure - a thoroughly smooth record fusing his elastic vocals and disco-infused pop production - went gold in Britain, and he followed with Rokstarr the next year, another digestible collection of dancefloor-ready pop/R&B tunes.

That record eventually proved to be his Stateside gateway, particularly after he released a remixed version of his buoyant breakout Break Your Heart with an obligatory Ludacris guest vocal added in.

Cruz notes non-rock acts from the U.K. have had trouble breaking into the U.S. music scene in recent years. So what was different about him?

"I'm really, really, really sexy," he said with a laugh. "No, I'm just kidding, that's my ongoing joke."

"But I think just the musical trends have changed and (pop music) is sounding a little more dance-y and European, and that ... allows (listeners) to be a little more susceptible to U.K.-sounding music."

Cruz says he takes cues from musical movements bubbling a fair distance below the mainstream - "I listen to underground electro and dubstep, like really grimy records that people would never expect, and then I listen to ABBA, and then you kind of fuse the two," he explains.

And he says that experimental mentality has pop music moving in a more interesting direction.

"There was definitely a while when pop music had no soul in it, and it was just all about manufactured kids, five guys who were not necessarily the best singers but looked good, and the songs that had all the soul ripped out of them," he said.

"Whereas the origins of pop music didn't have to do that. Michael Jackson and Madonna made pop music, and it was great, and the production was amazing, and it had musicianship to it.

"So pop music doesn't have to be terrible. You can take really cool elements and put it in pop music and it'll sound really good. That's what I think, hopefully, what I do, what Will.i.am does and what Stargate (production team) do for Rihanna."

Cruz says he'll continue to write for other artists even as his solo profile grows.

In fact, he's recently penned a few tunes for Canadian teen sensation Justin Bieber, whom Cruz calls "the biggest thing in pop."

"They're just fun party records," Cruz says of the songs. "He's young and a fun kid. He appeals to the kids out there having a good time, so the songs I wrote for him were literally, you know: 'Let's go out and have a good time, party, and have fun.'

"In my opinion, they work for him, so it depends on whether he likes them personally or he and the label feel that's the direction for him or not, so I'll just have to wait and see."

Cruz also takes pride in his Rokstarr "high-street fashion" line, whose eponymous sunglasses (retailing for 165 British pounds online) are a permanent fixture on Cruz ("Even indoors, even at night - just because I feel like it," he says).

But Cruz points out that his is not a rags-to-riches story, and he doesn't feel as though he has to fabricate a rugged backstory just to gain credibility.

"My dad had enough money for us all when we were kids," he says. "I think it's a case of being yourself. I think it all goes wrong when you try to pretend that you're someone else. So if I hang out with Ludacris, I don't start trying to act like I'm gangster.

"You've just gotta be yourself. Either they accept you or they don't."

Taio Cruz Performs ‘Dynamite’ On Kimmel Video

Taio Cruz Performs ‘Dynamite’ On Kimmel

International crossover star, Taio Cruz, performed his new single ‘Dynamite’ on Jimmy Kimmel Live on June 11. The singer songwriter performed the track as part of his set to the promote his ‘Rokstarr’ LP – which was released in the States this week.

While I’m gonna need Mr Cruz to update the wardrobe pronto (fellow Brits will know what I mean), as well as his live performing skills, it’s hard to deny the song’s smash hit potential. Put simply, it’s the business.

In any case, check out Taio’s performance after the jump…

Taio Cruz Has Sold More Than 160,000 Copies of Rokstarr in Canada

Nobody can deny that with his global chart-topping dance pop smash Break Your Heart, the invigorating new single Dynamite and a hot selling album with Rokstarr, Taio Cruz is enjoying a breakout year.

But the London, U.K.,-based Cruz — born Adetayo Ayowale Onile-Ere — comes by much of his production pedigree from America. In his early 20s, he apprenticed with producers Chris “Tricky” Stewart (Rihanna, Beyoncé, Britney) and Rich Harrison (Beyoncé, Alicia Keys) in Atlanta.

“I’m an information sponge — I like to learn from people who know a lot more than I do, and then try to apply it to what it is that I do,” Cruz told Metro during a promotional stop in Toronto this week. “I was very excited to work with Tricky and all those guys because they’re amazing and have made so many hit records. I wanted to learn production tips and songwriting techniques and other bits and pieces. I honed my skills.”

Cruz, 27, whom Universal Music Canada reports has sold more than 160,000 copies of Rokstarr here, says his U.K. musical pals had some interesting ideas about U.S. pop music.

“Everyone had this idea that American music used some sort of magic dust to make it sound so good,” he chuckles. “Some of my friends thought it was the current, because the electricity standard is different in America and it affects the sound waves.

“I learned that the reason the music sounds so good is that they use the best of everything. They’re not afraid to spend money.”

Cruz almost scored another bonus working with Tricky: He was there when Terius “The Dream” Nash wrote Rihanna’s No. 1 smash Umbrella and actually recorded one of the song’s very first demos.

“I thought it was an amazing song,” Cruz recalls. “I really wanted to release it, but as you do as a songwriter, you send it out to various people and loads of different artists, and Jay-Z loved it for Rihanna. The rest is history.”

Besides his distinctive synthesized Europop sound, Taio Cruz is trying to make history of his own, as Rokstarr isn’t only the name of his sophomore album, but his own line of hip sunglasses. Cruz has plans to expand Rokstarr into offering watches, fragrance and luggage.

“I’d love for the Rokstarr empire to be as big as Apple one day,” says Cruz. “Steve Jobs and Apple — they’re my inspiration.”

Taio Cruz Debut's #8 For Top Selling Album For Week

Way to go Taio. 24,000 Album's sold shooting him into the top 10. Let's see how long he can stay there. If you haven't got the CD yet, it is amazing check out the samples at Amazon and buy it there too for only $10:

Jack Johnson's new album "To the Sea" becomes the singer-songwriters' third No. 1 on The Billboard 200, as the set racks up 234,000 copies. Just under a half of that number came from digital sales. The Hawaii-native last appeared at the summit his first week with 2008's 'Sleep Through the Static" (375,000); before that, his soundtrack to "Curious George" in 2006 (163,000).

That pushes "Glee: The Music, Volume 3 - Showstoppers" from No. 1 to No. 3 with 45,000 coipes, a 29% slip in sales. With a 4% bump, Justin Bieber's "My World 2.0" goes from No. 3 to No. 2 with 52,000.

Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now" at No. 4 (41,000, -12%), Usher's "Raymond v. Raymond" at No. 5 (35,000, -2%) and Lady Gaga's "The Fame" at No. 6 (33,000, +6%) all stay put at the same chart positions they had last week.

Taio Cruz's No. 1 Hot 100 hit "Break Your Heart" featuring Ludacris helped fuel sales of "Rokstarr," which debuts at No. 8 with 24,000. This is the British artist's first album release in the U.S.

He's only 2,000 copies ahead of "American Idol" favorite Clay Aiken, whose covers set "Tried & True" starts at No. 9 with 22,000. His last album before leaving RCA was 2008's "On My Way Here," which sold 94,000. Yowch.

With help from her rising single "Your Love Is My Drug," Ke$ha's "Animal" album re-enters the top tier No. 17 to No. 10 with 20,000, a 5% increase.

Sales are up 4% compared to last week's dismal album sales week, and up 8% compared to the same week last year.

CD Review by Startribune

Not the best review, but not bad either...

"This British R&B-pop star's U.S. debut mostly features songs from his first two British albums, released in 2008 and 2009. Cruz, who produced every track on this album save one, works at the intersection of R&B and electronic music, taking the digital soul of T-Pain and The-Dream to extremes that make even borglike competitors like Jason Derulo appear earthy.

But the older songs here are gentler in subject matter, attitude and volume than the more recent ones, which have made Cruz something of an instant pop star. "Break Your Heart," which has already reached No. 1, manages to be airy while abusive synths descend from every corner. It's probably the most optimistic song about romantic malfeasance in recent memory.

Most of "Rokstarr" chugs along like this, though with less cynicism, fully mechanized and overflowing with empty calories. It's exhilarating and exhausting, and ultimately memory-depleting. Harsh, bombastic synths imported from megaclub trance music give these songs (particularly "Take Me Back" and "No Other One") motion and heft, and Cruz, or his voice box approximant, brings sweetness. There are vapid lyrics to navigate but they don't disrupt the mood, which is emphatic and rarely sensual: Turns out Cruz has no off switch."

Taio Cruz Played at 14th Annual KFEST

Sounds like it was a great time despite the medicore weather. If anyone has pics they would like to share please feel free to do so and I will put them up!

Article about KFEST:

The 14th annual KFEST entertained thousands of music lovers today in spite of some rain with the possibility of more on the way.

Omar Perez of Patterson attended the music festival two years ago. He returned this year because of the lineup.

"They have some good artists," Perez said. "I like all of them."

Adam Lambert, Ludacris, Train, B.o.B., Orianthi, Taio Cruz, Kevin Rudolf, Aaron Fresh, Iyaz, Charice and Kat Deluna are scheduled to perform at the annual extravaganza staged by Fishkill-based WSPK (104.7 FM), known as K104.

A last-minute addition to the lineup was "American Idol" contestant Allison Iraheta from season eight who sang briefly.

This year’s KFEST concert is sold out.

This year marks the 10th year at Dutchess Stadium, the home of the minor-league Hudson Valley Renegades.

Rain and severe weather held off held off until around 2:15 p.m. Two storms went through the area.

Otherwise, a stiff breeze and overcast skies kept the temperatures down. Free sunblock was, however, being distributed.

Blankets were spread over the tarp-covered outfield, though when the musicians were performing people are all standing and moving to the music.

Dale Bramwell of the Town of Wappinger and his 12-year-old daughter, Reilly, are in attendance at KFEST for the first time.

"There are a lot of people here," Dale Bramwell said. “It's pretty cool and not too rowdy."

Taio Cruz proudly wears pop label

Although Taio Cruz's debut album, out this week, is called "Rokstarr," he wears the pop-genre label proudly.

But Cruz — who recently had a No. 1 hit with the song "Break Your Heart" — knows some people don't have much respect for pop.

"I think 'pop' became a dirty word. I'm not going to name any names, but then some people ripped all the soul out of it," said the 27-year-old, who hails from Britain.

"People like Madonna, people like Michael Jackson — that's pop music, but it had soul, it had real musicianship to it," he added. "Then it became very manufactured, this terrible thing to say that you are. But, for me, I just love pop music that takes influences from loads of different genres, and just focuses on the catchiest parts of that music."

That's what Cruz has tried to do, not just with his own music, a mix of dance and pop. He has been a Top 40 mainstay in the U.K. since 2006.

Still, American success was important to him: "For me, as a kid, all of my influences were pretty much American, whether it was Michael Jackson or Madonna — most of the big stars generally come from here. My music has always been geared that way."

Cruz made his impact on the U.S. charts in a big way with "Break Your Heart." It set the record for the largest jump to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 by an act with its first charting single, soaring from 53-1 in early March. Despite setting a precedent, Cruz tried not to let himself get too excited over the milestone.

"I just kind of try to just remain calm with everything that I do," he explained. "If I release a record and it sells 20,000, or if I release a record and it sells 20 million, I try to treat them both the same."

Album Released Yesterday!! Did You Get It Yet?

Rokstarr is out today! Get it cheap at Amazon.com, only $7.99, I already ordered my on pre-order.

Free MP3, "I Just Wanna Know"

Fresh-faced Taio Cruz is brand-new on the scene in the U.S. but already breaking records. The British singer and producer exploded into the record books with his debut U.S. single on Mercury Records, “Break Your Heart” (featuring Ludacris) – which scored the Billboard Hot 100’s biggest one-week jump to #1 (from #53) by any New Artist’s debut single in the chart’s history.  Not too shabby when you're just getting started.

In the U.K., this son of a Nigerian father and Brazilian mother has already established himself as a major artist where he has had chart success as a singer, songwriter and producer. In the wake of success of his debut album Departure (2008), which spun off a quintet of UK chart hits (“I Just Wanna Know,” “Moving On,” “Come On Girl,” “I Can Be,” “She's Like a Star”), Taio was tapped to work in the studio with X Factor champs Alexandra Burke, Leona Lewis, and Shayne Ward.  Sessions followed in Philadelphia with Britney Spears, and Brandy. The year climaxed at the MOBO Awards with a Best Single nomination for “She's Like a Star,” which Taio performed with Sugababes.

Today, he is releasing his much-anticipated debut album "Rokkstar" in the U.S. Check out a totally guilt-free MP3 download of his middle of the road pop R&B ditty "I Just Wanna Know," a non-album bonus track that shows off his chops as a smooth and sultry balladeer.

Positive Review From That Grape Juice

"British breakout star Taio Cruz is set to follow-up the chart-topping success of his US debut ‘Break Your Heart’ with new single ‘Dynamite’. Expectedly Electro-Pop (Cruz’s musical mainstay), the song is a winner if another chart smash is what Cruz is on the hunt for. With its infectious hook,  80’s party nod, with a modern twist, this one looks poised for the top. Great track…"

10 Questions Answered By Taio Cruz

Ludacris fans know the rapper doesn’t just jump on anyone’s record. After turning on the radio and hearing Taio Cruz’s “Break Your Heart” incessantly, it was apparent Luda made a wise choice on the collaboration. The British-born singer’s song topped the Billboard Hot 100, making him quite the busy guy as of late. He’s jumping from one city to the next on a daily basis to promote his sophomore album, Rokstarr, available June 1.

But Taio’s grateful for the grueling schedule and the extreme love he’s received. “It’s always been loads of screaming fans,” he reveals. And witnessing his sudden success, it’s interesting to see what Taio’s got up his sleeve next. “If you like ‘Break Your Heart,’ the album is very much in that place,” he explains. “Very electronic-pop influenced, as well as a little bit of pop-rock. I always try to tell people that I make across-the-boards pop music.” As someone who has written songs for the likes of Ke$ha and is rumored to be working on Rihanna’s forthcoming album, it’s definitely Taio’s turn in the spotlight.

Right before he jetted off to Las Vegas, Rap-Up.com caught up with Taio Cruz to discuss his fondness for Avril Lavigne, the video girl of his dreams, and his guilty pleasure, which comes in the form of a libation.

1. What was it like working with Ke$ha on your second single “Dirty Picture”?
She was awesome. I actually finally got to meet her at the video shoot. We actually did the studio sessions in two different countries, but it still managed to work out and sound great. When I met her to work on the video, she was just a lovely person. We had a great time. We haven’t had the chance to party together; I was invited but couldn’t make it on that day. But I’m sure it would’ve been a mad party.

2. What did you do when you found out that “Break Your Heart” had hit No. 1?
My manager and I were kind of hanging out in L.A. and we decided to have a nice English cup of tea. I’m not really much of a partier, not really. I’m always in the studio, making music, so that’s my rock ‘n’ roll side.

3. The song itself, and especially the video, portray you as quite the player. Do you consider yourself a heartbreaker in real life?
No, not really. I suppose maybe 20%. It was more of just playing a character and having fun, just going out there and making a real cool, fun, cocky video. Not everyone has seen the whole plot of the video, but it’s actually myself and my girlfriend both going out with the intention of breaking everyone’s hearts.

4. You’ve done a lot of writing for other successful artists. Why did you decide to start putting out your own music rather than focusing on writing for others?
I just felt like it would be cool to see how well my music would be received if I put it out there, ’cause a lot of the times when I was in the studio people would ask me whether or not I was releasing a record. When I’d be writing a song for someone, I’d sing on the demo, they’d hear my voice on the song, and be like, “Oh my God, this is cool. When is this coming out?” And I would just be like, “Well, it’s not coming out. It’s a demo for Britney Spears,” or something. So I just decided to put a song out, to see how it would be received, and it was received so well. So I created an album, and then from there created a second album, Rokstarr, which is what you guys are listening to now.

5. If you could pick the perfect female co-star for a video, who would it be?
There’s too many beautiful women to pick from, to be honest! I’d be missing out on too many girls. It could be a combination of Megan Fox, Angelina Jolie, Cassie, Jessica Alba, Halle Berry, Zoë Saldana, Stacey Dash, or Jennifer Lopez—a combination of those women [laughs].

6. On that note, what do you look for in a woman, besides beauty?
Just someone who’s fun, knows how to have a good time. The most important thing is how they treat other people. I don’t like people who treat other people badly. I like people who are kind through and through.

7. You’re a really busy guy. If you could have a day off, what would you do?
Absolutely nothing! And that concept is so alien to me. Doing nothing—wouldn’t have to do anything, wouldn’t have to go anywhere, wouldn’t have to think about business, don’t have to think about anything. That would be unbelievable. But I never do that, even when I’m on holiday, I’m still thinking of stuff or sorting things out, or I’m on the phone or email. So it would be good for a day to do absolutely nothing.

8. Your new album is titled Rokstarr. Who are some of your favorite rock stars?
Wow. That’s the first time I’ve been asked that question, which is cool. Queen, David Bowie, Coldplay, obviously. Oasis rocks. Lenny Kravitz. I like pop-rock. I like Nickelback! [Laughs] I like Avril Lavigne, she’s more pop I suppose, but she’s great.

9. If you could collaborate with any non-living artist, who would it be?
Michael Jackson, ’cause he’s the greatest.

10. What’s your biggest guilty pleasure?
Sprite. I try not to drink too much of it, ’cause I know it’s bad for you, but I love Sprite.

Say What!? Perez Hilton...

Ok, so Perez Hilton is quoted as saying the following "Travis has that special star quality that a lot of these other contemporary males don't have. He has what Jason Derulo lacks. Travis has what Jay Sean and Iyaz and Taio Cruz don't -- he's a superstar. Justin Bieber has it, that’s why he's been able to connect in a much bigger way. I do think that Travis kind of does fill that void that Justin Timberlake has left because he's not that much older, but he is 20 years old so he can appeal to an older broader fan base that’s just not tween girls."

Full article @USNews

Now, I am no expert, but Taio Cruz has been around this business for a long time writing songs for other people and even releasing his first album in 2008 which was a large hit in his home country the UK. In my opinion those people who are not at first an instant hit are the ones that have a lasting effect on people and therefore it is a little early to say Taio Cruz will not be a SuperStar. Thoughts??

NY Times Article: "Why You Should Get to Know Jay Sean, Tinchy Stryder and Taio Cruz"

We hold these truths to be self-evident: America leads the world in technology, commercial cinema and, most certainly, R&B.

Lately, though, that final truism has gotten a violent shake. Over the last half year, young British (!!!!) singers, like Jay Sean and Taio Cruz, have been getting just as much play on American R&B/pop radio as homegrown genre stars like Ne-Yo and Jason Derulo.

Last fall, Jay Sean's debut U.S. single, "Down," shot to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making him the first urban U.K. act ever to achieve that feat. The song went on to become the seventh-best-selling single of 2009, moving more than 3 million digital copies stateside.

Now that achievement has been matched by another Brit: Taio Cruz (who pronounces his first name "Tie-oh"). In the last month, Cruz's debut single, "Break Your Heart," not only got to No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100, it did so in an especially splashy way. "Heart" made the largest one-week jump to the top position by any new artist in history — vaulting 52 places at once.

Cruz managed his bolt by selling more than 300,000 downloads of the song in a seven-day burst.
Next week, the 27-year-old's U.S. debut CD, the cockily titled "Rokstarr," arrives here. The week after, it should become the nation's top seller.

The fact that both these Brit singers sound entirely American couldn't have hurt their cause. If you just heard them sing — and never heard them speak — you'd never guess their country of origin. "The majority of our audience had no idea either artist was from the U.K. until they were told," says Sharon Dastur, program director for Z-100, which heavily features both artists.

Still, there are other factors behind the ability of U.K. R&B artists to crack the hard nut of U.S. radio. Over the last year, R&B/pop stations have changed their format, downplaying conventional, midtempo, hip-hop-inflected R&B in favor of faster, dance-oriented pop. "R&B and hip hop have been usurped by rhythmic pop," explains Sean Ross, author of the industry newsletter Ross on Radio.
That shift has resulted in the rapid rise of dance stars like Lady Gaga and Ke. It has also benefited hip-hoppers who've switched to a more club-oriented sound, like Pitbull.

Craig McLean, who writes for Billboard from the U.K., traces the trend back to the Black Eyed Peas and producer/artist David Guetta. "Their success opened up radio, and the American consumer, to dance music," he says.

That, in turn, greased the way for U.K. stars, who've always embraced dance records, even when they went out of fashion in the U.S. after the '90s.

Newest Billboard Top Ten List

Usher's "OMG" is No. 1 on the U.S. record chart this week, Billboard.com reported Thursday.

Coming in at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 is Katy Perry's "California Gurls" featuring Snoop Dogg, followed by B.o.B's "Airplanes" featuring Hayley Williams at No. 3, B.o.B's "Nothin' On You" featuring Bruno Mars at No. 4 and Taio Cruz's "Break Your Heart" featuring Ludacris at No. 5.

Rounding out the top tier are Eminem's "Not Afraid" at No. 6, Ke$ha's "Your Love is My Drug" at No. 7, Lady Gaga's "Alejandro" at No. 8, Rihanna's "Rude Boy" at No. 9 and Train's "Hey, Soul Sister" at No. 10.

Thus, Taio Cruz "Break Your Heart" is down 1 this week from last week's number 4 position.

Perhaps soon Dirty Picture will be in the top 10, or Dynamite. What are your thoughts? Which song do you like better?

Most Played Song in 17 years, by Male Singer (Nielsen BDS)

The revolving door atop Billboard's Pop Songs radio airplay chart ushers in another rookie male artist, as Taio Cruz rises 3-1 with his introductory track "Break Your Heart," featuring Ludacris.

The British-born Cruz commands the list a week after B.o.B became the 12th lead solo male to reign with a first entry. While eight male rookies ruled between the chart's inception in 1992 through 2008, Cruz is the fifth to reign since October, when Jay Sean reached the summit with "Down." Jason DeRulo and Iyaz followed Sean to No. 1 last year.

(With 10,709 plays logged in the Pop Songs chart's tracking week (May 10-16) on 132 stations (an average of 81 plays per station), according to Nielsen BDS, "Break Your Heart" is the most-played title in a week by a male singer in the survey's 17-year history).

Here is a look at the 13 lead male soloists to top Pop Songs with their first charted titles:

Artist, Title, Year
Taio Cruz featuring Ludacris, "Break Your Heart," 2010
B.o.B featuring Bruno Mars, "Nothin' on You," 2010
Iyaz, "Replay," 2009
Jason DeRulo, "Whatcha Say," 2009
Jay Sean featuring Lil Wayne, "Down," 2009
Flo Rida, "Low," 2008
Ne-Yo, "So Sick," 2006
Chris Brown, "Run It!," 2005
Gavin DeGraw, "I Don't Want to Be," 2005
Lou Bega, "Mambo No. 5 (A Little Bit Of ...)," 2000
Ricky Martin, "Livin' La Vida Loca," 1999
Eagle Eye Cherry, "Save Tonight," 1998
Shawn Mullins, "Lullaby," 1998

Is the recent upswing in new male artists ruling Pop Songs a coincidence? Or, are mainstream top 40 programmers more actively seeking a balance between male and female vocals in the upper reaches of their playlists?

WHTG (Hit 106)/Monmouth, New Jersey program director/music director Matt Knight cites an "abundance of good songs by male artists right now."

"Pop is a cyclical format, not just by genre, but in terms of male and female artists, as well. 2009 saw Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Ke$ha and the resurgence of Britney Spears. Now, there's a great selection of male artists such as Cruz, Usher and B.o.B," says Knight, who anoints "B.o.B Presents: the Adventures of Bobby Ray" his "favorite hip-hop album of the last five years."

"I believe that a good song is just that, regardless of whether a male or female singer is performing it."

Zapoleon Media Strategies president and Hitpredictor partner Guy Zapoleon likewise theorizes that Cruz's new leader continues a longstanding pattern in which pop radio listeners will always seek one of the format's hallmarks: variety.

"By their very nature, tastes of the public swing like a pendulum from one side to the other. People always want what they aren't hearing," says Zapoleon, who, among his storied radio career, is credited for reviving UB40's No. 34 1984 Hot 100 hit "Red Red Wine" while at KZZP/Phoenix in 1988; strong listener reaction to airplay on the station spurred A&M Records to re-release the song, resulting in it reaching No. 1 that October.

"(Listeners) want variety, and there has been such a flood of incredible music from great female artists that the pendulum was destined to swing back to some great music from male artists.

Concurring with Knight that a song's strength is the ultimate key to programmer acceptance, Zapoleon says that Cruz's hit easily passes the test.

"'Break Your Heart' is one of the best and most memorable songs of the past couple of years."

Taio Cruz has been signed by Def Jam Records

With the fantastic line up already announced (Justin Bierber, Usher, JLS, Rihanna, Cheryl Cole, Dizzee Rascal, Alexandra Burke, Jason Derula, Pixie Lott), we’re getting more excited after hearing the latest gossip from today’s hottest acts! Read on for the latest goss on JLS, Taio Cruz, Rihanna and Justin Bieber, from the Capital Insider…

We’re obviously all excited about the latest release from JLS, ‘The Club Is Alive’.  JLS’ new single, ‘The Club Is Alive’ is a bold move for the boys as the song is based on the ‘Sound of Music’! But the latest person to get excited about the single is Julie Andrews, star of the 1965 ‘The Sound of Music’ which the single samples. Julie played Maria, a nun who gets a job looking after seven singing children. (If you haven’t seen the film, it’s a lot better than it sounds, and certainly in a league of its own compared to that dreadful musical Andrew Lloyd Webber has seen fit to unleash on the country).
And it sounds like Taio Cruz getting to the top of the charts in the US charts with 'Break Your Heart' has got him noticed over there. Taio has been signed by L.A, Reid, head of the highly influential Def Jam records, whilst he was in the US. Rihanna has revealed that she'll be working in the studio with Taio after she finishes her 'Last Girl on Earth' tour.

Rihanna told the Daily Star: "We will start recording when we get back to Los Angeles. Taio has been signed by L.A. Reid and I think he's great."

Taio, meanwhile, has given us a few clues about what we can expect from the tracks he'll work on with Rihanna. Backing away from the recent rock-influenced sound and focusing on Rihanna's pop sound, perhaps best shown on her third album 'Good Girl Gone Bad'. "I really like her single 'Please Don't Stop the Music', so the tracks I've written for Rihanna are in that vein."

Justin Bieber has changed his hair cut again! Just as everyone was getting used to the long locks he’s chopped them off. According to the New York Times, the short look for Bieber is the favourite for some teen boys who’ve been going for "The Bieber" cut and paying up to $150 to mimic the singer's style. All eyes will be on Bieber's barnet when he heads to London for 95.8 Capital FM’s  Summertime Ball on June 6th.

Fancy your chance to win 5 Golden Circle tickets for you and four friends? All you need to do is share a picture with your friends and tell us who it is – it’s that simple! Taio Cruz to be on Jersey Shore Soundtrack

MTV's Jersey Shore (the cheesy reality show you hate to love), has captured the interest of millions in its short five-month history, and they are not about to let any sand gather under those perfectly pedicured toes.  In fact, the MTV network, in honor of all of its spray-tanned beach beauties, has decided to capitalize on the show's success by releasing a musical soundtrack of the show this summer.   The record will include tracks by artists such as Lil Jon, Akon, Taio Cruz, and LMFAO, who performs the show's opening song called "Get Crazy"  (you know, the one that inspires involuntary dance movements).

The soundtrack will be released by MTV along with Universal Republic Records, and will contain two versions. The first will be a standard version, and the second, a deluxe that will include "Get Crazy."   Both will be available on July 20th, perfectly timed for the start of the show's second season premiering on July 29th.  Also available on July 20th will be Jersey Shore's completely uncensored first season DVD.

His name has been linked to established singers in the Hip-Hop realm out there and one song proved it that he's not just a person behind the panel, but also a performing artist. He's Taio Cruz, whose single "Break Your Heart" has reached number one in Billboard Hot 100 chart and stayed relevant for 10 weeks straight.
